Kickstart Scheme helps create job placements for young people
The Kickstart Scheme is now open to help employers create six-month job placements for young people aged 16-24.
Local employers who have fewer than 30 roles can apply to be part of the scheme through Blaby District Council by completing a short application form.
The job placements should support the participants to develop the skills and experience they need to find work after completing the scheme. Funding is available for:
- 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week
- associated employer National Insurance contributions
- employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions.
There is also £1500 per job placement available for setup costs, support and training.
Please email us at the Council if you have any questions, or find out more on the Government website.
New Job Support Scheme replaces furlough
The new scheme launching on 1 November will help protect jobs in businesses facing lower demand over the winter months due to COVID-19.
The Government will pay a third of hours not worked, with the employer also contributing a third. Employers using the scheme will also be able to claim the Job Retention Bonus if they meet the eligibility criteria. More information can be found on the Government website.
Test and Trace Support Payment
You are now required by law to self-isolate if you test positive for COVID-19, or if you are identified as having been in contact with someone who has tested positive by the NHS Test and Trace Scheme.
To support residents whose earnings are affected by staying at home and isolating for 14 days, the Government has set up the Test and Trace Support Payment Scheme. Those who are eligible can apply to their council for a support payment of £500 for the period of isolation. More information is available on our website.
Business volunteers needed to help young people
Blaby District is working in partnership with local secondary academies to help ensure our young people are ready for the world of work. We are offering Year 10 and 11 pupils the chance to have virtual mock interviews with local business representatives to help improve their future performance at interviews and employability prospects.
We need local businesses to join our own staff in order to offer this opportunity to every pupil. No previous interviewing experience is needed, just a positive attitude towards helping young people and a commitment of at least one half day during the year. The virtual mock interviews will be using Microsoft Teams or Zoom. Dates in the new year to be confirmed.
Please email us if you would like your business to take part in this project.
