Blaby District Council's news update for residents - Friday 26 June

Whilst the easing of lockdown and reduction in the cases nationwide is encouraging for the country, news of a rise in positive test results in the City of Leicester recently is a clear reminder that the pandemic isn't over yet.

Please remember to:

  • Stay at home as much as possible
  • Work from home if you can
  • Limit contact with other people
  • Keep your distance if you go out
  • Wash your hands regularly

Bin Collections and Hot Weather

A huge thank you for all of those who have made the effort to leave your bins out by 6:30am to help our crews, who have started their work earlier to avoid the extra hot midday/early afternoon heat. Your support over the pandemic to our crews has been incredible, and we appreciate all you do for them.

We will make every effort to let you know across the summer if we're starting earlier, to make sure you get plenty of warning. Keep a lookout in your inbox!

Jobs and Vacancies

There's some fantastic opportunities at Blaby District Council and the local area for those who are looking for a job or new challenge.

Here at the Council we have three vacancies:

  • Environmental Health Team Assistant
  • Envirocrime Technical Officer
  • Depot Maintenence Operative (P/T - 15 hrs per week)
Visit our Jobs page for more information and to apply online

There's also 50 vacancies at The Company Shop, located at their new site near Scudamore Road. You can visit the Leicester Employment Hub website for more information on the roles, including Sales Assistants and Warehouse Operatives.

Test and Trace Scam

You may have seen the news about scammers posing as NHS contact tracers. Please remain alert as bogus callers are requesting money to cover the cost of coronavirus testing kits.

Remember that contact tracers will NEVER ask for:

  • Any form of payment
  • Passwords or PINs
  • Any details about your bank account
  • You to download anything
  • Control of your PC/Laptop by giving access
  • Send someone to your home
Find out more on the Take Five Fraud Website, and visit the Leicestershire Police Neighbourhood Link page for the latest information on scams.

Residents fined for flytipping offences in Harborough

Two residents have been fined by Harborough District Council for flytipping offences.

A Narborough man was fined £400 for dump household waste in Stoughton in May. A woman from Blaby was fined £300 for failing to check if the person had a valid waste carriers' licence to remove her waste.

Read more about the successful case, and let us know if you witness flytipping on our webpage.

Shielded Changes

Changes to the Shielding guidance are coming soon. Here's what you need to know:

From 6 July, you:

  • Can meet in a group of up to six people outdoors, including people from different households, while maintaining strict social distancing
  • No longer need to observe social distancing with other members of your household
  • Can form a 'support bubble' with one other household. All those in a support bubble will be able to spend time together inside each other's homes
From 1 August:
  • The advice to 'shield' will be paused, with the advice to adopt strict social distancing rather than full shielding measures
  • You should minimise contact with others outside your household or support bubble
  • You can go to work, if you cannot work from home, as long as the business is COVID-safe
  • Children who are clinically extremely vulnerable can return to their education settings
  • You can go outside to buy food, to places of worship and for exercise but you should maintain strict social distancing

Everyone who is classed as shielded will be getting a letter from the government confirming this information, and full details are also available on the Government's website.
