County Council to reopen Tips

Please note - The tips are managed and operated by Leicestershire County Council, and we are unable to answer any enquiries you may have.

Leicestershire County Council will be reopening their tips from Monday 18 May.

The selected sites will open seven days a week to county residents - with a booked appointment only - Whetstone Tip is one of the sites the County Council has selected to reopen.

An online booking system is also available to make an appointment on the Leicestershire County Council website. The authority are expecting high demand for bookings and have confirmed that more slots will be made available over the coming weeks.

People are being asked to only bring what they cannot safely store at home for the time being. Social distancing will be in operation at the sites, and plans will also include traffic management arrangements. There will be parking restrictions in place around the immediate vicinity of the waste sites.

There will also be restrictions on the type of items people will be able to bring to county locations - so some waste types will still have to wait.

For full information visit the Whetstone Tip page on the County Council website.

Grass Cutting

Leicestershire County Council are responsible for the cutting of grass verges, central reservations and islands throughout the county.

We only cut grass on land we own. Any queries regarding grass cutting of highways can be made to the County Council. Information about their plans during the Coronavirus pandemic and contact details are available on their website.

Parks and Open Spaces

Following the changes in lockdown restrictions for the public, we have offered advice to residents that all of our parks and open spaces remain open but play areas are closed.

Parks including Fosse Meadows, Bouskell Park and Jubilee Park have plenty of space to socially distance whilst out taking exercise.

Feel the health benefits and help our area's air quality by walking or cycling if you're planning to visit our parks. Please remember to follow the social distancing guidance in our parks and keep two metres apart at all times from people not from your household.

Supporting the Vulnerable

We have linked up with the Co-op to create a community hub at their Whetstone Food Store.

The Hub will identify vulnerable community members, gather orders and pass them onto the store. The Co-op will create a package and take payment from the customer over the phone before we deliver the goods.

This link-up will help our priority in supporting the vulnerable during the Covid-19 outbreak.

If you need help or want to refer someone to the Hub, visit the dedicated webpage and fill in our online form.

Self Employed Support Scheme

Self-employed workers are able to apply for the government's self-employed income support scheme.

The scheme will will cover up to 80% of each self-employed worker's average taxable monthly profits and monthly payments will be taxable and capped at £2,500.
